Preamble

  • Mentoring is an effective and popular way of providing guidance and support to the students and thereby shaping their future. Effective mentoring also helps to accomplish program vision & mission of an institute. It develops a sense of discipline, responsibility and accountability within the student community.
  • The prime objective of the mentor-mentee process at DmbHIMS is to ensure students’ overall development with regard to academics, professional integrity and helps in developing employable skills among the technical students of this institution.

Mentoring System

  • Each faculty members are assigned the approximately equal numbers of mentee from each class throughout the period of their course. The first-year students are assigned mentors through the Mentor-Mentee system. Each mentor meets with his/her assigned mentee once in a week as mentioned in the time-table.
  • The mentors are provided with a standard booklet containing all personal and academic details of their respective mentees, which they need to update throughout academic curriculum of the assigned students. The mentors remain in regular touch with the guardian of the mentees and update them regarding the progress and any deficiencies found within them.
  • Proper confidentiality shall be maintained by the mentors with regard to the personal grievances of their respective mentees and motivate and guide them to navigate themselves from odd situations. The mentors shall be consulted/informed in case of disciplinary issues on code of conduct with their respective mentees.

Responsibilities of Mentor

  • The mentor will perform the following functions. The list is not a blue print. The mentors can always do more for the benefit of the students. :
  • 1. Meet the group of students at least once in a week as mentioned in the time-table.
  • 2. Continuously monitor, counsel, guide and motivate the students in all academic matters.
  • 3. Advice all the students regarding all the activities right from academics, examination, assesments, co-curricular, and extra-curricular for their overall development.
  • 4. Take the lead in supporting a mentee through an ongoing, one-to-one relationship.
  • 5. Build a relationship of trust by caring and planning of welfare of the mentee.

  • 6. Serve as a positive role model.
  • 7. Strive for mutual respect.
  • 8. Always be a patient listener to the mentees and be considerate and flexibale towards the issues of mentees.
  • 9. Always encourage and support the mentees for constructive activities.
  • 10. Develop a sense of mutual respect for each other among the mentees.
  • 11. Contact parents/guardians if situation so demands eg: academic irregularities, behavioural changes, detrimental activities, negative interpersonal relations etc.
  • 12. Advice students in career development, professional guidance etc.
  • 13. Keep contact with students even after they pass out.
  • 14. Intimate and suggest if any administrative action is called for.

Responsibilities of Mentee

  • 1. Respect the mentor.
  • 2. Regularly attend the meeting with the mentor and seek advice.
  • 3. Provide the details of his/her performance and curricular and extra-curricular activities to the mentor.
